Rules behind what gloves to wear?
When it comes to sparring it is always best to go heavier than you would do on fight night with the idea that you can build arm strength and ensure there is enough support and padding in the gloves to protect your knuckles ahead of fight night.
On the White Collar Boxing Scene in the UK it is not uncommon for all fights to take place with 16oz gloves regardless of your weight category.
If you are in the pro game, it will very much come down to the sanctioning body. For example any fight sanctioned by the British Board Of Control is that only Flyweight and Welterweight contest should take place with 8oz gloves. All other fights should take place with 10oz gloves including all female bouts, regardless of weight.
How do I know what Oz glove to buy?
In sparring we would recommend following the size guide provided that factors in the weight of the fighter that is wearing the gloves. If you are 78kg (approximately 12 stone 3lb) or heavier we would always recommend wearing 16oz gloves to spar.
