Why Strength Athletes Should Use Yoga Accessories. From a Strength Coach’s Perspective

Did you know Buds Fitness not only stocks strength equipment, but also a full range of yoga accessories?

We get asked that a lot. It is a fair question.
Why would a strength-led, coach-run business sell yoga blocks, yoga socks and yoga wheels?

The answer is simple. Because strength without recovery does not last.

Where It Started

In 2021-2024, my passion for strongman lead to competing multiple times a year, and as time wore on it felt as though my body was saying no, but that was the reality at all.

As a strongman athlete in 2022, I competed four time. Events ranges from concrete Shield Carries. Heavy yoke runs. Deadlifts. Atlas stones. Log press. By the end of that year, my body felt older than it should have. And I was only in my 30s.

It was not a motivation or strength problem. It was a mobility problem.

So I introduced a dedicated recovery day every week. Not light cardio. Not skipping the gym. A proper recovery day. Which included;

  • Controlled breathing.
  • Stretching.
  • Slow, yoga-style movement patterns.

Over time, our gym filled with yoga mats, yoga blocks and mobility tools. Not because we pivoted away from strength. Because we wanted to protect it.

Recovery and mobility work are essential for strength athletes who want long-term performance and injury prevention.

Do Strength Athletes Need Yoga?

Yes. Strength athletes benefit from yoga because it improves mobility, reduces injury risk and supports long-term performance.

Strength training repeatedly loads the same joints and muscle groups. Over time, tight hips, restricted shoulders and a stiff thoracic spine can limit performance and increase the risk of strain.

Yoga-style mobility work helps restore balance. Yoga is known to support:

  • Hip mobility for squats and deadlifts
  • Thoracic spine rotation for pressing
  • Shoulder stability for overhead work
  • Hamstring flexibility for hinge patterns
  • Nervous system recovery after intense sessions

Yoga is not about becoming flexible for the sake of it. It is about staying strong for longer.

If you want longevity in strength training, recovery is not optional.
